팝의 제왕 마이클 잭슨 (King of Pop Michael Jackson) 1982년 6집은 현재 6500만장 이상이 팔린 팝 역사상 최대 판매를 기록한 앨범으로 기네스 북에 올랐다. 앨범차트 빌보드 200에 37주간 1위를 기록했고, 7곡이 빌보드핫 10위 안에 올랐다. 역사상 가장 위대한 앨범에도 선정되었고, 미 국립 음반 기록소에 등재되었고 2008년 그래미 어워드 명예의 전당에 헌액되었다. 이 앨범의 엄청난 성공은 미국 음반시장에 엄청난 변화를 이끌었는데, 당시 미국은 흑인과 음악은 분명한 구분이 있었다. 특히 락앤롤 장르는 백인의 음악이라는 인식이 있었고, MTV는 백인가수들만 출연할수 있었다. 이 모든 인종의 편견을 깨뜨린 사람이 마이클 잭슨이었다.
《Billie Jean》은 6집 Thriller의 2번째 싱글로 댄스, 팝, R&B가 섞인 곡으로 마이클 잭슨이 만들었다. 실제 상황을 직접 경험한 잭슨의 이야기를 토대로 만들어 졌고 잭슨의 딸꾹질하는 목소리로 악센트를 주는 게 특징이다.
